Preparing Students for Success in High School, College and Beyond

At a time when many schools have had to eliminate or decrease their music programs, Grace is blessed to be able to offer Band as part of our school's music program.

Individualized band lessons are offered once a week during the school day. Students in grades 4 - 8 are eligible to participate. During Band, students learn how to read and count music and the correct way to hold and play their chosen instrument. Lessons are offered in the woodwinds (clarinet, flute, saxophone, etc.) and brass (trumpet, trombone, horn, etc.) as well as percussion (drums, timpani, cymbals, etc.).

Cost for the year, is $200 per student. This does not include the deposit/rental of an instrument for approximately $100 a year. Parents concerned about the cost of this program should realize that this averages out to less than $10 per week, well below the cost of most music lessons.

Students that progress in their lessons are invited to join the Monday Night Band which practices at 7:00 p.m. at Walther Lutheran High School on Monday evenings.

Throughout the school year, students have the opportunity to play with a band consisting of students from several other grade schools and to perform in a concert for the public .

Band lessons conducted by Ms. Julie Bernier,  Instrumental Music Teacher, Walther Christian Academy, Melrose Park .

The band program is made possible in part by a grant from the Farny R. Wurlizter Foundation.
